Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine

The Section of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine provides critical care services for newborns in The Neonatal Intensive Care Units at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital (the largest such unit in the state), Bridgeport Hospital, Waterbury Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. Our flagship Level IV NICU, located on the top two floors of the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, is a new state-of-the-art 68 bed unit, mostly single rooms, providing all relevant medical and surgical subspecialty support. We have an innovative approach to critical care which is focused on achieving the outcomes most important to families.

Members of our neonatology faculty lead dynamic basic, translational, and clinical research programs. We have internationally recognized experts in molecular genetics, infant nutrition and body composition, lactation science, gastrointestinal development, immunobiology, family-focused infant outcomes, education research, quality improvement research, and bioethics, among others.

We have a vigorous fellowship program, training the future leaders of academic neonatology. In addition, this section plays a central role in the training of Pediatric residents and students at Yale School of Medicine.
